- [Brad Mader] This is the old coach house in Daveyston, roughly 1854. To run this house, biggest expense is in winter time. Old stone building, gets very cold here in winter, it's very hard to get warm. So, yeah we use a lot more energy in winter. In summer time it's not quite so bad unless we have a massive heat wave.
- [Mick Flak] Those older homes, a lot of them are constructed from stone and take a long time to heat and cool. You get too big a building, periods of the year typically for power consumption you're contributing quite a bit more to either cool or heat those styles of homes.
- [Brad Mader] The energy consumption is slowly, prgressively going up every year and you see the costs spiraling, not out of control, but you just kind of realize you got to do something. Hence, we went for some solar. Shopped around a little, but basically I was getting phone calls from telemarketing and then I went Oh, sounds too good to be true, their deals and then I contacted Town & Country Solar and then they actually steered us in the right direction. Very friendly, just professional. But still they're old fashion country sort of just-- We're country people here, and we got a long really well. So, it was just a simple easy procedure to go Yes, we're going to pay you to do this job, instead of someone that we didn't know who was actually obviously going to outsource the work to some other mop that you're never going to meet. So, this guy we could actually probably drop into Gawler and see him. So, yeah he's very approachable. The cheapest systems with their warranties and things like that, definitely not as good. They kind of give you a warranty and then it's you read through the fine print and it's not the same as what you get with an LG panel.
- [Mick Flak] They've definitely wanted to go quality over a cheaper alternative, and that really is based on having a maintenance free solar system well into the future and one that's backed and supported well by us and LG.
- [Brad Mader] I guess every time you skimp on something, especially when it's something quite substantial, and it comes back and bites you on the bottom and it costs you twice as much. So, if you saved a few dollars you're not going to save in the long run. So, do it right the first time. Yes definitely, I recommend Mick and Town & Country Solar to anyone. Everyone should definitely have a look at their-- Definitely number one on my list.
How did solar power help eliminate the power bills of a 165+yr old home in regional Adelaide?
