These days, we're removing quite a few systems, which is a bit upsetting. We pull about 40 or 50 panels a week off roofs. We send our panels to Zimbabwe, where they get a second life, but it's still a waste. Starting from the racking, we put more feet on the racking than required for the area. We basically design systems to cyclonic conditions, twice as much copper that is required to get to the roof, basically to stop voltage rise. Voltage rise constrains the inverters, cuts down the power they can generate, so we put lots of copper on the jobs. For years, I've been saying, stick as many panels on the roof as you can fit and afford. When you look at the return on investment, between, for example, a six kilowatt system and a nine kilowatt system, even with the poor feed-in rates that we've got now, the difference in payback is like six months. Loads are only going to increase in a few years because you will end up with a electric vehicle. You'll be looking for something to charge that with, and the purchase rates of electricity are going up. So, you want a system that can handle your daytime loads. And although feed-in tariffs are low at the moment, as the grid gets more storage online, feed-in tariffs will start increasing again. So, my advice still holds, put as much on the roof as you can fit and afford.
