The old Beechworth Gaol has great significance in history for Australia, it's very well-known for housing Ned Kelly when he was caught at Glenrowan, and we have been installing a 30-kilowatt system here on the roof. The Beechworth Gaol's incredibly significant to the local area here, and across the country, really. So it's really essential, pivotal point and a recognised point for the community, and they all feel ownership of it or connection to it. Everybody's really excited for this installation in Beechworth because it's that bringing together of the history and the future, and it can be done, and this is how we can do it. So this will showcase exactly that.
So here at the Beechworth Gaol, we've fitted 89 panels up on the section of roof that was selected, used the Neon 2 335-watt to just get on the 30-kilowatt size. The Indigo Power Group were the ones to instigate the inquiry with us, and they pretty well had an idea of what they wanted to do size-wise.
Indigo Power owns the solar installation that's going up on the roof. We've decided to use really good, high-quality equipment, so we're putting LG solar PV panels on the roof. So that is going to be a system that's a really high-quality system, and it's going to also last for a long time as well.
So that's all about longevity and return on investment.
High-quality products are very important as a qualified electrician and a solar installer. The technology's come a long way in the last two, three, five years. It used to be very plug-and-play. These days there's a lot of communications and monitoring as well as programming, so we really need to do the training in the products and know how to install these. And we can really customize that for the customer as well.
When we're talking to customers about what they should look for in solar, we always head to quality. It's an investment, and we see that for them, because they're choosing something that they want to have longevity out of, and we want to see that for them as well, so we certainly always talk to the level of quality, the warranties, where those warranties are held, and who's going to look after them post-installation. We're looking at technology that's going to last them many, many years, so that's why we recommend certain brands and certain levels of quality, to ensure that they're going to get that value, not within the first couple of years, but over the long-term.
We've done a lot of installs with our solar installer, Solar Integrity. They do a wonderful job, they're really a part of the community energy network that's developing as well. I know that they're doing some work for us, but they're also doing some really exciting work on lots of other exciting community energy projects as well, and that's not only community-owned solar, but also solar for social housing, so they're working on lots of interesting projects.
The Old Beechworth Gaol is an extremely good one to be involved with, very historical in the area, and wouldn't wish it upon anyone else but a local company to be doing the job on it.
The community are very, very active in this area about renewables as well, so it's been really good to see a building of such significance wanting to include renewables into their landscape effectively. So this is a real mold of the old meets the new, and it's how we can tie in with our heritage and bring new technology in and power themselves effectively, and then help power the greater community as well. Personally, I'm incredibly proud to play our part in this, and from a company perspective, Solar Integrity, we are all local people, we all grew up in the area, we've all been educated in the area, and now we own a business or we work in the area. So our staff are incredibly proud of this as well, as much as what we are, because it is part of our background, and it's part of our backyard.
In the Albury-Wodonga wider regional area along the New South Wales/Victorian border, we strongly recommend Solar Integrity. They can look after you for off-grid, for batteries, for solar solutions. They will give you free advice of what is the best opportunity for your house to save money with solar.
How will the installation of solar energy at the historic Beechworth Goal help to power the local community?
