In the last a year or two, what we have found is we have come across a number of systems that we are now servicing, repairing, or replacing. It is painful, but the fact is some of these systems are three years old. Some have been five or six years old. We've seen panels that are six years old that have either shorted out, delaminated or have failed completely and required replacement. If I was a customer, I wouldn't want to be in a situation such as that, which is what we try and tell customers.
We build relationships, and part of the relationship is about being honest with customers. And we don't want to sell something to a customer that we wouldn't want to put on our place ourselves. What we are looking for is the customer that's actually after quality, not after a price-based solution. When we start our conversation with customers about what is the right system for them, we are guided by A, what their current usage is, we're guided by the second thing, which is what their proposed consumptions are going to be, and what is it that they expect to get out of this system. So when we started looking at this, we talk about the performance over X number of years, we talk about how that's going to impact their power bills, we talk about how that's going to impact the environment.
If you pick the right size system, the right quality system, which achieves all of your expectations and contributes positively towards reducing your dependence on the grid, I think it is a win for everybody. It's a win in the long run, as long as you've picked a high quality product. There's a component that doesn't get actively spoken about. It's great to try and do the environmentally right thing by putting solar on and reducing your greenhouse gas emissions and all of that, but you need to look beyond that. And a lot of our customers do start looking beyond that when we start talking about the fact that you know, the choices that you make today are reflective of what will happen in a few years time, in terms of whether you add to landfill. All of the greenhouse gases that you save now, we're kind of lost when you have to replace them in a few years.
Why are higher quality solar power systems better investments over the long-term?
