The installation part of the job is equally as important as picking the right product. The other day we were all out on a job, and we had a guy rock up three doors down and they did the job in three hours, we were on the job for eight hours. What are the differences? Picking a good installation team is all the difference. We don't want to just get there, throw it in, go home. We want to make sure that everything's perfectly installed. All the brackets that are put in are the correct intervals. We had a quick look at that job afterwards, and realised that the brackets, there was only one in every three that should have been put in. And so having those brackets spread out at such large intervals is susceptible for that job to actually blow off the roof, if they have a high wind load. So doing all those little things that you don't normally see, the unseen, is the really important thing to have trust in the installation team that's going to be putting your job in.
Yes, we're seeing the ramifications of picking the wrong installation team for the job. And we've seen lots of water ingress through cracked tiles, through the fixings that get put in and not correctly sealed. We've seen rooftop fires from inadequate DC isolators, water getting into the DC isolators. We've seen panels with undue stress put on them because they followed the taper of the roof, instead of keeping them nice and level. So we see such a range of poor quality installations, that really does sadden me that the average person is paying a lot of money for this investment, and just not getting the quality that they should.
The other thing, designing a system is something that's crucial for the system performance. Having an accredited designer to be able to look at the job, and to be able to work out the best layout, to know that the panels are going to be performing well, on the orientations that we've selected. If we're just looking at it from near map and going, Yes, I think that's okay. We'll put all those panels there which I know a lot of our competition doing... There's no real way the customer knows that they're getting the most out of those panels that they selected. We carefully check. We make sure that those panels are going to be all laid out in the most efficient format. And then we'll go to the customer and go, This is what you can expect to achieve. And we provide a performance estimate month on month of what they can expect to get out of their system.
Why should you avoid choosing a cheap or low-quality solar power installer?
